GREAT CAUCASUS TOUR – 15 DAYS

This diverse trekking adventure takes you deep into the high mountain regions of Svaneti and Khevi, always following the majestic spine of the Greater Caucasus.

You’ll hike near Mount Ushba, Georgia’s most demanding peak; Shkhara, its highest; Kazbek, the proud icon; and Chaukhi, the country’s premier climbing destination.

The magic of this journey lies in the unique blend of grand landscapes and intimate encounters with ancient mountain cultures. Expect heartfelt Georgian hospitality, centuries-old traditions, and soul-stirring views at every turn.

All treks are led by professionally trained guides in cooperation with local hosts to ensure your safety and enrich your experience.

We provide a set tour programmes with fixed pricing. However, all aspects of the itinerary, accommodation, and activities are fully amendable according to your preferences. For custom adjustments, please use our “Get a Quote” form.

Accommodation:
You’ll overnight in simple guesthouses during the trek, and in charming small hotels while in cities—ideal for rest and recovery between stages.

Luggage Transport: Horses (or 4WD vehicles) carry your main bags, so you only need a daypack during hikes.

Fitness Required: This tour is suitable for participants with the stamina for up to 4-8 hours of hiking daily, a readiness to forgo comfort, and a cooperative team spirit.
The tour may also be upgraded to include a Kazbek summit climb for high-altitude trekkers.

Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi
Flight to Tbilisi or Kutaisi.
Overnight in Tbilisi or Kutaisi.
Depending on flight time, we can start driving directly from the airport.

Day 2: Into Svaneti – Crown of the Caucasus
After a 5-hour drive from Kutaisi or 8 hours from Tbilisi, we arrive in Svaneti. First overnight will be in Mazeri, in the Becho Valley.

Day 3: Ushba Glacier Hike
Trek deep into the Becho Valley along the Dolra River to the towering Ushba Waterfall and glacier (2,650 m). Panoramic views of Ushba’s 2,000 m vertical walls.
Overnight in Mazeri. (Hike: 6–7 hrs / ↑↓ 1,190 m) (F/L/D)

Day 4: Trek to Mestia
Drive to Guli village (1,920 m). Trek to Koruldi Lakes (2,700 m) via Guli Pass (2,950 m). From the lakes, descend to Mestia (1,400 m).
Enjoy a panoramic trek to Mestia, the cultural centre of Svaneti, famous for its ancient defensive towers.

Day 5: Mestia – Land of Towers
Stay in Mestia. Visit the State Museum and one of the famous defensive towers. In the afternoon, enjoy a short hike to Chalaadi Glacier.
Overnight in Mestia.

Day 6: Tetnuldi Views – To Adishi
After a short drive, hike toward the white pyramid of Tetnuldi (4,860 m) with views of Ushba and Shkhara. Descend to the secluded alpine village of Adishi (2,100 m).

Day 7: Glacier Views – Adishi to Kala
Begin at the dramatic Adishi Glacier’s Icefall. Continue to a viewpoint at 2,800 m revealing the start of the Bezengi Wall. Descend into the Enguri Valley to Kala village.
Overnight in Kala. (Hike: 6–7 hrs / ↑930 m ↓1,250 m) (F/L/D)

Day 8: To Ushguli & Shkhara Glacier
Morning visit to the hillside pilgrimage church of St. Kvirike above Kala. Drive to UNESCO-listed Ushguli (2,200 m). Afternoon walk to the Shkhara Glacier, part of Georgia’s highest peak.

Day 9: Epic Descent to Kutaisi
From Ushguli, hike to Latpari Pass. On the summit, enjoy spectacular views of the central Caucasus Mountains, including Elbrus, Ushba, Tetnuldi, Shkhara, and others.
Enjoy a long scenic descent from Upper to Lower Svaneti Tskhenis Tsklis Valley.
Drive to Kutaisi. Optional shorter hike with car transfer.

Day 10: Cross-Country to the East
Drive across Georgia to the Eastern Caucasus. Arrive at Gudauri (2,000 m), a winter resort nestled in alpine terrain.

Day 11: Kazbegi & the Eurasian Divide
Drive across Jvari Pass (2,200 m) to Ukhati Village and hike from Narvani Valley to Tekhena Valley. Transfer by car to Stepantsminda.
Overnight in Stepantsminda. (Hike: 5–6 hrs / ↑↓800 m) (F/L/D)

Day 12: Chaukhi Panorama
Transfer to Juta village. Hike through alpine rhododendron fields to the viewpoint at Mt. Mukhadze (3,272 m), overlooking the jagged Chaukhi range and Mount Kazbek.

Day 13: Return to Tbilisi via Mtskheta
Drive to Tbilisi. En route, visit the Trinity church, Ananuri Fortress and the ancient capital Mtskheta (UNESCO). Dinner in Mtskhet

Day 14: Explore Tbilisi
Discover the charm of Tbilisi on a guided city tour. Afternoon and evening at your leisure.
In the evening, we invite you to a traditional Georgian supra (feast) and wine cellar visit.

Day 15: Departure
Transfer to Tbilisi International Airport for your return flight. (F)

Optional Mount Kazbek Climb

Easternmost Five-Thousander of the Caucasus

After completing Day 10 as usual, from Day 11 onward you have two choices:
Continue with the standard itinerary through Kazbegi and Stepantsminda (as detailed above)
OR join the Optional Mount Kazbek Climb Extension for a high alpine adventure
Groups can split based on interest — some can do the Kazbek climb while others continue the regular tour itinerary.

Optional Mount Kazbek Climb Extension Itinerary:

Day 11 – Betlemi Hut (3,670 m)
Transfer via the Cross Pass into the Kazbegi region. Hike past Gergeti Trinity Church (2,200 m) and across the Gergeti Glacier to reach the Bethlemi Hut (3,670 m).
Overnight in Bethlemi Hut (simple alpine shelter, shared mattresses). (Hike: 6–8 hrs)

Day 12 – Gergeti to Decca Hut (3,000 m)
Transfer to Gergeti Trinity Church and begin the ascent to Decca Hut. Trekking through alpine meadows and rocky terrain, you’ll start adjusting to altitude.
Overnight at Decca Hut.

Day 13 – Skills & Ascent to Bethlemi Hut (3,665 m)
Morning training in glacier travel and ice axe/crampon use, followed by the climb to Bethlemi Hut.
Overnight at Bethlemi Hut.

Day 14 – Summit Mount Kazbek (5,054 m)
Pre-dawn start for the summit push via the classic glacier route. Enjoy panoramic views before descending back to Decca Hut.
Overnight at Decca Hut.

Day 15 – Descent & Return to Tbilisi
Hike down to Gergeti Trinity Church, transfer to Stepantsminda, and continue to Tbilisi for the trip’s conclusion.
